System Administrator Job Description
About the role
We need a System Administrator to keep our servers, systems, and core services running reliably. You will manage on-premise and cloud infrastructure, automate routine work, and stay ahead of patches, backups, and capacity. We are after someone dependable and detail-oriented who treats uptime and security as personal responsibilities.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain server and infrastructure uptime, security, and performance
- Manage backups, patching, and disaster recovery
- Automate provisioning and routine administration
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain Linux and Windows servers on-premise and in the cloud
- Monitor system health and respond to alerts before users notice issues
- Apply security patches and coordinate scheduled maintenance windows
- Design and test backup and disaster-recovery procedures regularly
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and group policies across systems
- Automate repetitive tasks with Bash, PowerShell, or Ansible
- Administer virtualization and cloud resources on VMware, Hyper-V, or AWS or Azure
- Plan capacity for storage, compute, and licensing to avoid bottlenecks
- Harden systems against threats and support audits and compliance checks
- Maintain runbooks, architecture diagrams, and change records
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, IT, or equivalent hands-on experience
- 3 or more years administering Linux or Windows server environments
- Solid grasp of networking, DNS, DHCP, and Active Directory
- Experience with virtualization, cloud platforms, and backup tooling
- Proven ability to troubleshoot production issues methodically under pressure
