About the role
We are seeking a Database Administrator (DBA) to own the health, performance, and security of our production databases. You will handle everything from backups and recovery to query tuning, replication, and capacity planning, making sure critical systems stay fast and never lose data. This role suits a methodical, calm-under-pressure engineer who takes pride in uptime and treats data integrity as non-negotiable.

- Tune queries, indexes, and performance at scale
- Secure data and manage access and compliance
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and patch database systems such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, or Oracle
- Design and test backup and disaster recovery procedures with defined RPO and RTO targets
- Monitor performance and tune slow queries, indexes, and execution plans
- Configure and maintain replication, clustering, and high-availability setups
- Manage user access, roles, and permissions following least-privilege principles
- Plan capacity and forecast storage, memory, and connection growth
- Automate routine maintenance such as vacuuming, reindexing, and statistics updates
- Respond to database incidents, run root-cause analysis, and prevent recurrence
- Support schema changes and migrations with minimal downtime
- Implement encryption, auditing, and controls to meet security and compliance requirements
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or equivalent practical experience
- 4 or more years administering production databases
- Deep expertise in at least one major database engine such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, or Oracle
- Proven experience with backup, recovery, replication, and performance tuning under real load
- Strong SQL skills and familiarity with scripting for automation, for example Bash or Python
